DEFENDING AN EMPLOYEE TERMINATED FOR RETALIATION AFTER FILING A GRIEVANCE AS ADVISED BY THE HUMAN RESOURCES DEPARTMENT AND THE SUPERVISOR OF THE IT DEPARTMENT IN TULSA, OKLAHOMA.

We aim to raise awareness and encourage discussions to seek support from all areas as we tackle the issues of discrimination and retaliation associated with the City of Tulsa's policies that enforce color-specific restrooms.

In 2019, following the submission of several grievances, I was let go from my role with the City of Tulsa on December 3, 2020. Even though I complied with policies and raised concerns, I became a target of the department designed to protect my rights—Human Resources (HR). I remained firm in my stance, as I believe I deserve equitable treatment from my employer.

In 2020, there was a restroom in the IT department of the City of Tulsa where discrimination against Black individuals was permitted.

ABOUT

Sondia Bell, Founder

I was born and raised in Tulsa, OK. I won Student of the Year during my undergrad at the Tulsa Community College becoming the first African-American to win this prestigious award. I acquired a bachelor's degree in Business Administration with a minor in Employment Law from the University of Tulsa and a Master's degree in Entrepreneurial Studies (MES), from Langston University.

Previous Employment:

  • Senior IT Project Manager/Senior Buyer for the City of Tulsa;

  • Professor at Wright Career College. I have over 2 years as a college professor, in which I taught finance, accounting, and economics courses.

I'm a demonstrated leader in the Tulsa community. I'm the Legal Redress Chair of the NAACP Tulsa Chapter and lead spokesperson for my case, 'Sondia Bell vs the City of Tulsa'. I'm a woman who exemplifies integrity and accountability at the highest level! With my leadership and voice, I helped clients obtain full custody and had wrongful conviction charges dismissed in Okmulgee Creek County. Also, I was able to obtain funding for 20 small business owners who were declined EIDL loans and grants with SBA.

I'm the founder and creator of Rate My Attorney.  Improper council is a malignancy eating our social structure. Rate My Attorney will help people all across the world find the best lawyers based on the rating of previous clients and feedback. It is a hub where people can find help with ratings before hiring their lawyer to prevent them from throwing away a bunch of money on ineffective assistance.  Clients who have or are currently dealing with a particular lawyer may post a rating and review of any lawyer that is already listed on the site. Furthermore, clients may create a listing for any individual lawyer and remain anonymous while not being already listed on the site. This was accomplished by me being nominated as the Legal Redress Chair in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and by me volunteering my time and offering the tools on how to be successful when obtaining the right lawyer or defending their case.

I started a business called 'Show Me How, LLC' in December of 2021. This business has helped me develop a stream of income after I was terminated from my employer during the height of the Covid pandemic. Show Me How, LLC helped me develop software called "Rate My Attorney," where you can read reviews from clients before you seek counsel to represent you nationwide.

Show Me How clients can range from anyone seeking counsel; including for custody, criminal, or seeking help with tribal citizenship cards or learning how to become a homeowner with the assistance of being tribal or non-tribal. It will be a hub where people can find help with ratings before hiring their lawyer to prevent them from throwing away a bunch of money on ineffective assistance.

TESTIMONIALS

I, Pebbles Williams, started a business and was going through ups and down with my business due to the pandemic. Sondia helped me by showing me how to apply for the PPP loan from the beginning to the end for my business. I was able to receive a loan for $20,000 and get it forgiven. Sondia helped me with the application process on what was needed from my business and she helped me with the accounting process of figuring out my negative balance with my business closing from the mayor shut-down in 2020 for three months. Sondia knew which bank to go through the PPP process with. I will say, I don't know what I would do without Sondia because she is my go-to person for everything with no cost attached to it!
